Work

So today I went into work and got the news that they were laying me off. I have until the 16th of January to find a new job....Oh Joy!!!

Catching Up

Things have been a little hectic around lately. Last week I finally finished up my training for Applebee's. The first time on my own was Thursday. I was really nervous to say the least because I have never done anything like this before. It actually wasn't that bad at all. There were crazy times but I know that it was because I was stressing myself out. It was a slow night but again that isn't bad because it gave me a chance to ease into things slowly. I worked again yesterday and was expecting a busy shift because everyone has told me how busy Sunday's are. It wasn't bad at all. Everyone was telling me how slow it was. Oh well it gives me the chance to work out all of the kinks before I work a really busy shift.
It is nice to have cash on hand. That is something I am not used to at all. I really am just trying to save it all and not spend it on stupid things which I know I have done in the past :) I have hopefully learned from my past mistakes! I picked up a shift this week on a night that is usually more busy then the nights I normally work so we will see what happens then.
It is hard getting home late because I usually try to be in bed early when I work in the mornings but hopefully once I get used to it it won't be so bad. I am crossing my fingers that it doesn't wear me down to the point where I have to quiet because the extra cash will for sure come in handy while I am trying to pay some things off.
My full time job is going good. Right now we have a new trainer so I am just trying to get used to her. We took a test last week and I got a 100%...I was so freakin excited. I wasn't expecting that at all. Hopefully I can keep it up and get another great score tomorrow on another test that is scheduled. I will need my sleep so it is a good thing that I don't work tonight so I can get to bed early :)
Hopefully once things settle down a little bit I will be able to blog about things that are a little more interesting :) But for now it is just little post here and there until a routine is created. I am also working on Marshall to blog a little bit more about work because I know that a lot of you out there are interested in hearing about his work...hopefully it won't be too long until I can get him on here!

Survived 1st Week of Work

Well here I am and it is now Sunday. I survived my first week of training in my new job! I am excited to really learn the system that they use. We haven't learned that yet so some of the training I have had kind of seems out of place but I am sure that once we learn the system I will understand a lot more of what we have learned so far.
They do have a problem with mice in the building and lets be honest that kind of scares me. I don't want to be on a phone call talking with someone and see a mouse. I think that I would lose it and start freaking out! UGH...I hate mice. They are sick and carry all kinds of diseases. They gave us a sheet the first day outlining the food guide lines and what we can and can't do. Anything that we want to leave at our desks over night for snacks or what not have to be in a rubbermaid container or something so that the mice don't get it. I don't think that I will be leaving any food there over night. I will just bring it for the days I want something. Hopefully they can figure out this problem and get rid of it FAST!!! I think that I am going to ask our trainer tomorrow how long they have had this problem to see if they are even doing anything to stop the problem besides not bringing in certain kinds of food.
I am not going to lie...now that I am working and have two days off now when I get up at 9 or what not it is great and really feels like I am now sleeping in :) During the week I am always up before 7 so yesterday and today was nice not getting up to an alarm. Although it isn't too bad waking up during the week because now I have a job and so that means that I am making money again which is always a good thing!
By the end of this coming week they want us to be on the phones taking real customer calls...I am a little nervous because I want to be confident when that happens and since I haven't learned the system yet I am not confident but that just means that this week we will be learning the system so that is a good thing. I just really hope that I don't mess up on anything come this Friday. So everyone cross your fingers that everything will go smoothly this Friday :)

1st Day of Work

Well I just got done with my first day at work. It wasn't too bad. We really didn't get into any learning yet. We just went over some basic stuff and signed some of our paper work. We got an hour for lunch today so Marshall came and picked me up and we went to Subway. It was nice to spend a little time with him now that I have started work :)
I got a little lost on the way home but hopefully tomorrow I won't make the same mistake. Traffic wasn't too bad this morning. The building that I will be working in is a secure building where you have to have a security badge to open all the doors so this morning every one who is in the training class was waiting around in the lobby to get there pictures taken. There are 18 of us I think so needless to say the lobby was a little full.
The best part of today was learning the dress code. We can wear jeans, capris, shorts, and t-shirts (as long as they don't have anything offensive on them). I can't wait. I have never worked at a full-time job like this one where the dress code has been so relaxed. I can't wait :)
So after my first day I am sitting here in my new outfit that I just got in the mail today from my mother 'relaxing'.

Where?

Okay I have had many ask me where I am going to be working. I didn't miss putting that in there....I did it on purpose but since so many people are curious then I will tell you where :) I am going to be working as a phone rep with Wachovia Bank. It is great because it really could open so many doors for me.

I can't wait to start!!!

I GOT A JOB!!!

I am so freakin excited right now. I was sitting here this morning and I received a call letting me know that I passed my interview and the next step is a drug test and a finger print test. I was told that if I pass those two tests them I have a job. I couldn't be more excited right now. It is perfect. I have been looking for a job for a while and I can't believe that it is finally here. It just lifts so much stress from me. I feel better knowing that I will hopefully have enough money to pay my bills for the next month :)
I scheduled an appointment right away to go take those two tests so that is now done. I guess the results take 2 days to come back. Hopefully there won't be any problems. I know that I don't do drugs so there shouldn't be anything there :)
I am guessing that now I wait for them to tell me when training is and what not. It starts the middle of April which is nice because we have a trip planned to New York to see Marshall's brother while he is home the first of April. Now I don't have to worry about that trip being a problem with work.
I really just can't wait to start the job. I also have an interview today for a part time job that would be great if they needed someone at night. That would for sure help pass the time while Marshall is working but we will just have to wait and see what happens today.
I am just sooo excited to finally have a job!!!

Job Update

I just wanted to take a minute and update whoever is interested in my job hunting.
Since I have moved and settled in I have been looking for a job. I received a couple of calls last week on a couple of jobs that I had applied to earlier in the week.
I had an initial phone interview with job #1. When I was done with the phone interview they wanted to set up an in-person interview which was done on Friday. It was a long interview to say the least. Probably the longest interview I have ever had. Once I got used to the questions it went a little faster. I was super nervous because I haven't been interviewed in over 3 years. I also wasn't used to the way the wanted the questions answered. I am actually not really sure how I did. They said that they will either call or e-mail in the next couple of days.
Job #2 called last week as well. I had an initial phone interview with this one as well. After that first interview was done we set up another phone interview which was going to be done with someone different for the next day at 11. So I tried to prepare myself the night before by just going through typical interview questions and how I would answer them. The next day the time came and they didn't call. I thought that was weird but nothing I could really do about it. They finally called around 11:15 and apoligized for running late and would make the interview a little short to make up for the time. I actually thought that this one went really well. She said that she was going to meet with a group of managers on Friday and try to 'sell' the people she interviewed and that I would receive either a call to let me know that they wanted to interview me in person or I would receive an email that would say 'Thanks but No Thanks' kind of thing. Friday came and I hadn't heard anything one way or the other. I checked my e-mail on Saturday just in case and there was an e-mail saying 'Thanks but No Thanks'.
I was extremely disapointed because I knew that I would be great at job #2 but all I can really do is bounce back and start looking for jobs that I can be satisfied with. I think that for right now I just need to find a job that is going to pay the bills and then once I have money coming in I can look for something that will make me happy.
I am really trying to stay positive about it all. I try to keep an open mind each morning when I am looking for a job. I know that I want to find something that I am good at and that makes me happy. Right now I am just trying to find a job that will do one of those things as well as pay the bills that are coming in.
I know that I will find something. I am just not good at patience when it comes to looking for a job :) I guess that is why I am going through all of this...to learn patience!
I do get on the computer each morning to look for jobs so I am hoping that something turns up soon. Keep you fingers crossed for me!

That makes sense...

So I just finished my 6-day rotation. I ended up with 4 days of home reserve (see below). On the night of Day 4, I get the usual ding of my Blackberry with the next day's plans and was half expecting more home reserve. Instead I got airline reservations to San Francisco. So, on Day 5 of 6, I drive to JFK and airline clear across the country to San Francisco. From San Fran, I get a sedan to take me to the San Jose airport about 30 minutes away where the jet that I was assigned to was located. Get there, get it ready, and the two passengers show up 30 minutes early. Blast off and fly from San Jose down to Carlsbad, which is about 400 miles south (Cali is a big state), near San Diego. That took about 50 whole minutes.

Once we got the jet all shut down and put to bed for the night, I turned on my Blackberry and was amused to find airline reservations to go home the next day. I had been kind of expecting to have a west coast to east coast flight on Sunday morning that would take me back towards home and (the way I saw it) justify them flying me all the way to the west coast, but nope, just that one dinky trip. So I airlined allll the way out there, "worked" for a whole two and a half hours tops, and airlined all the way back. This after sitting idle for 4 straight days. Oh well, makes sense to someone I guess. Now I'm off for the next eight days. Works for me...

Keeping busy

I'm on day 3 of a 6 day rotation and I haven't even left my apartment. I'm doing what is called "home reserve." Basically that means I'm all packed and ready to go, but they don't need me to go fly anywhere so rather than have me sit in a hotel, I stay home in case somebody calls in sick or they need an extra crew for something. Somewhere in my gateway (the NYC area), at least one other pilot is doing the same thing since it takes two of us.

I have been extremely productive these past few days. Here is a small photo journal of what I've accomplished:

I really need to get a new hobby! Or maybe they just need to put me to work...

The job hunting begins

Well since I am moving soon I thought that I would start applying for jobs and see what happens. It has been a challenge. I re-did my resume a couple of months ago and had several people go over it and I had them tell me what they thought. It was a lot of hard work but worth it because now I have a resume that I am satisfied with...Except the objective line. I am still trying to work that one out.
My goal is to apply or send my resume out to 4-6 different companys a week. It is hard because the majority of the jobs want you to apply online and don't give you a specific person to follow up with. So you just kind of send it out there hoping that they get it and take a look at it and give you a call. When you don't hear from them you wonder if they even received anything you sent. That is one of the downfalls about applying online. So far I have meet my goal though of applying to different places for different positions.
It has also been a challenge because I don't live there yet and so I am finding that it is harder for people to take a chance on you and settle for a phone interview. I am really trying to keep a positive attitude and I know that it is still early. It would just be nice if people would call or e-mail so I knew if they received my information.
I talked with a person who works in our human resource department today. We just talked about the road blocks that I am coming up against. He said that he would take a look at my resume and then tell me what he thought of it. That was good to hear. I didn't go to him in the first place because I thought that he would say he couldn't because the conflict of interest thing but I think because I am moving out of state he is willing to help me out. I will be sending him my resume tomorrow for him to look at. Hopefully he doesn't have to many changes he feels need to be made as I have sent it out a few times :) Oh well I would rather know now then not at all.
If any one has any advice please feel free to share it. I am taking any and all suggestions in this area :) Keep your fingers crossed that I find something before I move as well!
